The
Boulders
Nestled in the high Sonoran Desert foothills north of Scottsdale,
this celebrated resort blends so easily with nature that the local
wildlife might never notice anything there. The resort’s 160
individual casitas are carefully sculpted into the dramatic natural
terrain. The Boulders’ private country club features two 18-hole
championship golf courses, a tennis garden and the Sonoran Spa.
And five distinctively different restaurants offer unparalleled
choices for dining. No wonder The Boulders is consistently named
America’s top resort by readers of Andrew Harper’s Hideaway
Report, “a connoisseur’s guide to peaceful and unspoiled
places.” If you’re interested in scheduling a meeting,
The Boulders can accommodate a diverse range of possibilities.
- Arrangements for babysitting and child care, beauty salon appointments,
restaurant and travel reservations, sightseeing excursions and
transportation are all taken care of by the concierge.
- The Boulders offers a complete business center with secretarial
services, faxes, computers and phones. Postal services and assistance
with shipping packages is offered by the resort gift shop.
- A variety of housekeeping services are available to make your
visit to The Boulders more comfortable. Daily freshening and nightly
turndown service are standard conveniences. Others available upon
request include: air fresheners, baby cribs & amenities, bedboards,
blankets, electrical adapters, electric blankets, heating pads,
high chairs, humidifiers, non-allergenic pillows, pressing, bathroom
scales, and vaporizers.
- Room service is available from 6:30am to 11pm daily. In addition,
the refreshment center in your casita will be stocked daily with
beer, wine, sodas and snacks.
Activities and Attractions:
- Golf: Two captivating 18-hole championship courses designed
by Jay Morrish are sculpted into the desert so golfers can tee
off from the top of a boulder, look out over fairways framed by
ancient saguaros, and catch an occasional glimpse of desert wildlife
darting into the rough. (That’s given way to one of the
more colorful rules for playing The Boulders: if a coyote picks
up your ball and carries it off, you can drop a ball and play
it from there.) Golfers also appreciate the extensive practice
facility at The Boulders Club to sharpen their game before or
after a round of golf. In addition, the resort offers special
vacation packages and golf programs like the innovative Women
To The Fore.
- Tennis: The private country club features a
tennis garden with eight plexi-cushioned tennis courts and a separate
pro shop, all enhanced by glorious views of the desert surrounding
The Boulders. A talented professional staff oversees personal
instruction and clinics, and can find partners for anyone seeking
a tennis game.
- El Pedregal: One of the most appealing attractions
at The Boulders is the resort’s festival-style marketplace,
el Pedregal. Just a short stroll from the main lodge, it offers
a variety of intriguing shops, restaurants and galleries with
art and other treasures that reflect the spirit of the Southwest.
el Pedregal also features the first satellite location of the
famed Heard Museum of Southwestern and Native American culture.
The Heard Museum North offers frequent lectures and demonstrations
by regional artists, enhancing its constantly changing exhibits
of art, pottery, weavings and more.
- Sonoran Spa: Reflecting the timeless beauty
of the desert in its natural approach to fitness, the spa features
an array of tempting choices to soothe the spirit, challenge and
pamper the body, and enrich the mind. What a perfect setting for
the forthcoming Golden Door Spa, inspired by North America’s
premier destination spa. The Sonoran Spa’s fully equipped
Workout Center offers fitness machines and free weights as well
as cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, rowing and step
machines, and recumbent and upright bikes. The spacious Movement
Studio features a variety of fitness classes and health seminars.
Complete locker facilities include steam rooms for men and women.
The Earth, Sun and Water rooms are available for individual Spa
treatments like The Boulders’ hot rock massage, the Aromatherapy
Facial or the Sonoran Soother. Just outside are the whirlpool
spa and lap swimming pool overlooking the spectacular desert vistas
of The Boulders.
- Other Attractions: At The Boulders, it’s
easy to spend an entire day doing nothing at all. Nothing but
basking in the refreshing peace, then watching the sunset flame
over ancient saguaros as the desert wildlife comes out to play
in the evening breeze. But when you feel a teasing curiosity to
explore this dramatic terrain, there are plenty of tempting choices.
A lazy afternoon horseback ride through the rugged desert once
roamed by prospectors and pioneers. Rising with the dawn for a
hot air balloon ride above the boulders. Exploring the wonders
surrounding The Boulders on a mountain bike adventure or jeep
tours led by colorful Native American guides. And the Sonoran
Spa offers rock climbing instruction, hikes and nature walks,
as well as treks to Arizona wonders like an old-time gold mine
and petroglyphs carved in stone by long-ago desert dwellers.
Resort Casitas:
At the Boulders, there's no such thing as a typical room.
Instead there are 160 guest casitas shaped into the dramatic terrain,
each decorated with natural wood and Mexican tile. Among the pleasures
of these individual 550 square feet casitas are lavishly stocked
refreshment centers, a wood-burning fireplace for cozy evenings,
a large walk-in closet and a private patio or balcony overlooking
the spectacular desert terrain.
Pueblo Villas:
For families and groups of friends who want a more spacious setting
than the traditional casitas, Pueblo Villas offer a fully-equipped
kitchen, spacious dining area and living room, fireplace, private
patio, laundry facilities and garage, with a choice of two or three
bedrooms. And each of these southwestern-style patio homes feature
all the same services and amenities as The Boulders casitas.
