Billed as Arizona's only quarry golf course, The Pines Golf Club at Marana brings something very different to the Tucson golf scene. Ten of its holes are located in an old sand and gravel quarry that was abandoned. This unique setup provides stunning scenery and some dramatic elevation changes.
The Pines Golf Club is a 6,318-yard course that has a 561-yard par 5 (No. 7) and several holes where ordinary golfers have a real chance to go for the green. Pines also has a maintenance staff that's committed to insuring its one of the better plays in Arizona, by doing things like trying to maintain the greens running 11 on the stimpmeter even when summer approaches.
The driving range has also recently seen a dramatic overhaul that makes the Pines an even better place to spend a day. Of course, all the hulking sand and rock from the quarry, which often become obstacles on the course, still steal the show.
