The ASU Karsten Golf Course is a classic Pete Dye, Scottish links design with rolling hills, railroad ties, and partially hidden greens, well guarded by bunkers or water. It is a test of skill, which helps explain why Arizona State University turns out winning golf teams year after year, and players who acquit themselves so well on the PGA and LPGA Tours. At 7058 yards from the championship tees and a U.S.G.A. slope rating of 133, it is neither the longest nor the toughest public course in the Valley, yet challenge is inherent in the design, which offers several interesting problems that demand the golfer's full attention.
